How to Motivate Employees to Deliver Great Service

Motivating employees is one of the easiest concepts of management to understand, yet it is still very difficult to implement. Many companies expect employees to be self-motivated, but poor treatment can easily demotivate even the most enthusiastic worker. Motivating staff involves an approach to management that goes way beyond planning and organization. It combines honest and effective communication with a system of rewards and acknowledgement for a job well done.

Acknowledge hard work
Employees like to know that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed by management. In fact, some employees value this acknowledgement even more than money. Knowing that management values the individual as a person and publicly acknowledges the effort they put into their work can be a major motivator for personal job satisfaction. Companies which employ this practice tend to have high employee retention and save in recruitment costs.

Incentives
Many employees are encouraged by incentives, however managers need to pay keen attention to how these are implemented. Incentives also need to be worthy enough so that employees will strive to attain them. While one employee might be motivated by a bonus, another may appreciate an extra three days of paid vacation time. Allow employees to participate in the decision making process and, if possible, choose the type of incentives they would like to receive upon achieving or exceeding their targets. This will increase participation and motivation to go after these incentives.

Encourage Feedback
Honest communication is a key factor in the employee-manager relationship. Unfortunately, some managers forget that listening is a part of the communication process. A skillful manager maintains a healthy balance between strong leadership, and an open door policy which invites feedback and uses it to guide future decisions. Employees often have great ideas that can improve customer service delivery since they are the ones on the front line dealing directly with the customer. However, workers need to be reassured that the company is receptive to new ideas and constructive criticism of existing practices. Managers who consistently shut down employees’ viewpoints sends the message that potentially revenue-creating ideas are better kept to oneself.

Creating a positive work environment which allows employees to grow and enjoy their jobs should be one of the main goals of management. If people feel good about themselves and the organization, they are more likely to do a good job of creating happy and loyal customers.

  1. Yup, keeping the staffs motivated and inspired is a great way to give effective service to the customers. However, do you know- how to keep your hired helps motivated and stimulated so that they will show a strong willingness to put their effort best for increasing the productivity of the vocation? As an entrepreneur, if you really want to keep your workers excited about coming to the office every day, then you should develop a welcoming working environment, should reward your employees for great work, should invest in training, and should lead by an example. Hope, every business person will feel great after implementing these steps.
